Actor Jeremy Irons reflects on Broadway’s changes over the last 25 years. Calling the costs “ridiculously expensive,” Irons argues Broadway is “slowly killing itself – the audience is slowly dying.”

—–

Jeremy Irons is considered one of the world’s great actors, having won the Oscar, Emmy and Tony awards. On television Irons performance as Charles Ryder in Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited brought him worldwide acclaim, as well as the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Actor, and nominations for an Emmy and a British Academy Award.

On the silver screen, he has starred in such films as David Lynch’s Inland Empire, Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven, The Mission with Robert De Niro, and Reversal of Fortune with Glenn Close – the film based on Claus von Bulow. For this performance, Irons received the 1990 Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.

He made his Broadway debut in 1984 in Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing opposite Glenn Close, for which he won both the Drama League Award and Tony Award for Best Actor.

The Woman in Black (stage play) – Clip One

Posted on April 24th, 2010 by admin

This is a short clip from a stage production of “The Woman in Black,” adapted from the novel by Susan Hill. Structured as a play-within-a-play, the cast consists of two men – a young actor/teacher and an older gentleman who is haunted by his past – who use little more than the power of storytelling to recreate a ghostly experience that befell the protagonist many years before.

In this scene, the Actor convinces Arthur Kipps to use the power of theatre to tell his story.

Note: the video is rough in some places and the picture blanks out in the middle for a few seconds.

‘When There Was Me and You” — Greer Children’s Theatre

Posted on February 8th, 2010 by admin

In the stage version of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL this song is a duet between Gabriella and Troy with the rest of the cast (in our production) backing them up, rather than a solo as in the movie. It was absolutely beautiful — my favorite song in the production.
