Here again, the beautiful Sue Ward honors us with her talent on the “Wonder Morton” Theatre Pipe Organ. This spectacular organ resides in the Jersey City NJ Loew’s theater at Journal Square. The work and total dedication by many crewpeople and crewchief Bob Martin have made this a “place to see and a magnificent organ to hear” in NJ.
A short video I made to showing the Jersey City, NJ
Here’s Mitchell Parish/Hoagy Carmichael’s classic “Star Dust” featuring some beautiful solo stops on the amazing Berkeley Community Theater WurliTzer.
The Bob Balfour Wonder Morton Theatre Pipe Organ is being officially reintroduced to New Jerseyans this weekend. The organ, located at the Loew’s Jersey movie palace in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood, was painstakingly restored over 11 years. There will be special performances all weekend, visit loewsjersey.org for details.
I was fooling around with the King Kong March on the newly installed 3/15 Wurlitzer in Glasgow. I could not resist documenting on video one of the very rare chances I actually get to play a theatre organ! The march is from the original 1930s film, and was first plyed on a theatre organ by Jim Rosevere. This arrangement is more symphonic and “serious” than the big band version from the film. The massive wood diaphone in the hall really makes this piece! For those of you who know the piece well, yes I know I changed it a little-I just felt like it. No one plays it the same anyway.
Loew’s Wonder Morton, “Me minus you” lover “Night and Day” “Of Thee Sing”, played by Ralph Ringstad
Jeepers Creepers, the third song performed at the reintroduction event for the newly restored 4/23 Wonder Morton Organ at The Loew’s Jersey Theatre.
A beautiful old tune popularized by Richard Hayman, Boston Pops arranger and harmonicist. The amazing WurliTzer theatre pipe organ in the Berkeley (California) Community Theater is a thrill to play. Enjoy!
