Behind The Scenes: Blithe Spirit

Posted on April 9th, 2010 by admin

In 2003 I directed a production of “Blithe Spirit” at a local community theater. At the time I produced a DVD for the cast and crew to commemorate the event. I recently stumbled over a copy of the DVD and thought I’d share it for those interest in theater.

Friday the 15th @ 8pm

Tickets are $12 for Adults and $8 for Students. All tickets are general admission and sold at the door starting an hour before the start of each performance.

In the music comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”, six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser. This hilarious tale of overachievers’ angst chronicles the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. “Spelling Bee” is the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

The cast is rounded out by three audience members who are chosen at the beginning of the show to come up onstage and vie for their chance at the bee championship. Hilarity ensues, making the experience dynamic and different every night. While it is a show about kids, it’s written for adults. There is some adult language and we recommend that the show is most hilarious for ages 10 and up.

We hope to see you at the shows!

Up in Smoke title song- Cheech & Chong, Berkeley Community Theater, November 22, 2008

Posted on January 14th, 2010 by admin

The reunited Cheech & Chong perform the theme song to perhaps the most hilarious movie ever, “Up In Smoke,” on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Berkeley Community Theater in Berkeley, CA. Tommy Chong was on guitar and both he and Cheech sang a verse.

Cheech & Chong sounded great- they added a few extra lines and bits to pretty much all of their skits. The show was great, and despite a power outage that plunged the entire theater into darkness for about 10 minutes, the crowd loved every second of it. It’s great to have these guys back when the world definitely needs some laughs.
