How do I convince a movie theater to show a movie?

Posted on March 5th, 2010 by admin

A movie I want to see is only "playing in select theaters." How can I get my local theater to carry the movie?

If you can somehow demonstrate local interest in the movie, you might get through to theater management. But since theater chains are in the business for profit and base their decisions on demographic studies and historical successes and failures, it’s doubtful they’ll show the movie any other reason.

You might have better luck convincing management to offer limited special showings, say to 12:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays for a couple of weeks. The key is to limit their financial risk.

They say "Selected" theaters, but it’s the theaters that do the selecting. If the rent on a film is too high, then the manager may pass; he needs to make money or close up.
