How to movie companies make money off movie theaters?

Like how much does a movie company sell the right for a theater to play its movie? How do they get the movie in the theaters? What precent of ticket sales goes to the movie company? I have to answer all these questions and find out how X-man first class will make money by putting it in theaters. Just please try to help me as much u can. Thanks so much

When movie making was first developed the Studios owned the theatres and independent producers had to go town to town with projectors, but even they were for forced out by conglomerates. The independents sued studios such as Paramount in an anti-trust suit (anti-monopoly) which opened the door to private ownership of theatres.

Now, major corporations (with ties to the studios) own theatre chains. The basic economics is that theatres only take in about 40% of the ticket sales but make most of their money in concessions (90% profit). In return, the THEATRE pays for all technical upgrades (3D, seating, digital projectors) while the studios pick up the tab for P&A (Print & Advertising). A studio will actually pay MORE than the cost of making the movie to promote it.

What is little known is that these major chains will negotiate (0) percentage of ticket sales and even a smaller percentage of concession sales to get extended screening rights for blockbusters like Avatar or X-men first class. Some people say the studios own the theatres again (though this is unproven).

Movies had been shipped to theatres in 35mm/70mm formats for decades. This was expensive and complex because the prints were mostly useless at the end of a run. Foreign distributors also demanded dubbed/subtitled prints with outdated formats (16mm, cinemascope). Today a movie can be distributed via hard drives, optical disks (such as DVDs) or satellite and projected using a digital projector instead of a conventional film projector. Digital projectors were first deployed in 2005.

I have a lazy eye, which means I can’t see 3D, no matter how much I really want to. I was wondering if I went to see Final Destination 3-D in theaters, if the picture would look weird. I really wanna see the movie, but it’s in 3D so theres no use in me wearing the glasses if I cant see anything.

No you shouldn’t have a problem. The way the 3D process works is that two, overlapping images are projected. The images go through a polarizer, which is kind of like a filter for light. Each lens in your glasses filters out a certain image so each eye sees a slightly different image than the other, creating the 3D effect. Since you will only see one image, it will look normal to you. Although I would try to find a 2D version because you would be spending extra money on an effect you can’t see.

Are movies in English translated into French for French movie theaters?

I am obsessed with Harry Potter, however, I will be in France when it is released. I won’t be in a major city at the time of the release. Will movie theaters in southern France show Harry Potter part 2 in English or just in French?

Normally they should be in French, EXCEPT in great cities: Paris, Marseilles, Lyon, Nice, etc.
look in the cinema, where there is VF wrote (Version Française, French Version) that will be in French, totally in French… but in major cities AND ONLY in major cinemas companies (UGC, Gaumont, MK2, etc.) the film are sometimes in VO (Version Originale, so in English with subtitle). if it’s a film "for adult" that will be only in English, if it is for young adult (Pirates of the Caribbean sea, or… Harry Potter for example) it is in VF and sometimes in VO. (Normally 8 VF a day and 2-3 VO)

Do theater credits on a resume look good to film agents and film casting directors?

I figure any work on a resume is good, but theater acting and film acting are completely different. If I have more theater credits, does that still look good to the film agents and casting directors? Or would they feel like I won’t know how to do on camera acting?

Try naming a major actor who didn’t train in a theater program, who didn’t first come to acting through the stage — if you’ve come up with one or two, they were probably child actors or models. What matters here is that it seems from what you’ve said that you have already successfully segued into film, and have credits to show. But even if you hadn’t, you’d be starting from the same place nearly everyone does.

If you feel you could use more credits, go to the major film school in your city (either USC or NYU) and audition for student productions.

I live in the NY area. Are there any movie theaters that show older films
ex jaws, Rocky, Alfred Hitchcock classics etc etc.

I would love to watch some of my favorites (that came out before I was born) on the big screen, the way it was meant to be seen.

i need a monolouge for an audition but it has to be kid friendly since its a childrens theatre group.

Robert Munsch adapted his book "The Paper Bag Princess" into a play which is narrated by the Princess herself — it’s both funny and kid friendly and offers lots of opportunities to show how inventive you are.
