What is the best valued home theater in a box system?

Posted on April 29th, 2010 by admin

I am looking to add a budget home theater system for my Panasonic TC-P46G15 Plasma HDTV. I am looking to spend between $200-$400. I realize the sound won’t be as good limiting myself in price, but I am not an audiophile.

Most home theater in a box are not flexible in adding other equipment later on fro the upgrade. The best is a separate receiver and speakers or a combination. Take a look at the Pioneer VSX-519V-K from Best Buy for $199, it is a 5.1 receiver, or an Onkyo HT-S5200 a 7.1 receiver and a 7.1 speaker set up for under $500. Also take a look at the Yamaha 5.1 YHT-391BL for $299 at Best Buy, it is a receiver and 5.1 speaker set up. Add a blu ray disc player from Panasonic BD-60 for under $200, Costco has it for about $149 and comes with a 90 days return policy and an extra year of factory warranty. Hope this will help you out.

Dream Theater Pull Me Under(C) 1992 Atco Records

-words and music by James LaBrie, Kevin Moore, John Myung, John Petrucci, and Mike Portnoy
Lyrics

Lost in the sky
Clouds roll by and I roll with them
Arrows fly
Seas increase and then fall again
This world is spinning around me
This world is spinning without me
Every day sends future to past
Every breath leaves one less to my last

Watch the sparrow falling
Gives new meaning to it allIf not today nor yet tomorrow then some other day
I’ll take seven lives for one
And then my only father’s son
As sure as I ever did love him
I am not afraid
This world is spinning around me
The whole world keeps spinning around me
All life is future to past
Every breath leaves me one less to my last

Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I’m not afraid
All that I feel is honor and spite
All I can do is to set it right
Dust fills my eyes
Clouds roll by and I roll with them
Centuries cry
Orders fly and I fall again
This world is spinning inside me
The whole world is spinning inside of me
Every day sends future to past
Every step brings me closer to my last

Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I’m not afraid
Living my life too much in the sun
Only until your will is done’Oh that this tootoo solid flesh would melt.’

Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I’m not afraid
All that I feel is honor and spite
All I can do is to set it right
Pull me under
Pull me under
Pull me under I’m not afraid
Living my life too much in the sun
Only until your will is done

How can I make a home theater from a game room that is already wired for surround sound?

Posted on April 25th, 2010 by admin

I already have the speaker connectons on the walls but I want to put a projector and other things necessary for a home theater.
I want to use it for movies and tv and video games.
i want to hook up my gamecube.

take your master home theater reciever and plug up EVERYTHING to it. game console, speakers(on an output base), DVD player, and for the video output, wire it to the input on the projector, this should get everything linked together, i’m in the same situation right now, we’re contemplating replacing our Full size HDTV w/ a plasma HDTV. and with it we would get a bose, because my moms alwys wanted one, she loves the realistic sounding FX and stuff on movies. so that would leave 1 HDTV and 1 home theater system that wouldnt have a major use, so when they do i want to add, 48" and 600w to my xbox360 total experince lol hope you enjoy your setup it sounds sweet!

Dream Theater – Metropolis Part 1 (Images and Words) – SPLIT-SCREEN COVERS – VRA!

Posted on April 24th, 2010 by admin

Dream Theater Tribute
Split Screen Covers / VRA!

Metropolis – Part 1
“The Miracle and the Sleeper”
Album: Images and Words

Our 2nd song for the Split-Screen Covers / Dream Theater Tribute project. This time our guest vocalist was Will Shaw, the “guy who sings DT and Symphony-X in his car”, a.k.a. Unflexablegrace. Thank you for the great performance Will!

For suggestions, comments or whatever, feel free to email us.
splitscreencovers@gmail.com

╟►SPLIT-SCREEN COVERS

Song #1 – “Lifting Shadows Off a Dream”
Song #2 – “Metropolis – Part 1″

The ideia behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.

Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won’t necessarily be the same for every song. We will have guests from around the world participating, mostly (if nor all) on vocals though, at our discretion.

How those it work?

Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.

I then put the audio together and mix it.
Since I’m fairly new to mixing, this has been a great exercise for me. I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely.

I AB my mix with the original song but I don’t get too crazy about it. It’s difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.

When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyones videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color corrections it’s ready for YouTube. :)

╟► How to guest on a future SSC video?SplitScreenCovers@gmail.com

We’re lucky enough to say we’ve been getting many requests from great singers from around the world interested in participating on this project.

Unfortunately we can’t keep up with recording at the same rate people are showing up. A few singers are already chosen for specific songs and are just patiently waiting until we manage to get to them. Slowly but surely, we will do each one.

This unsynced relation of available singers to songs being put out has however put us in a difficult position of having to be more selective of our guests. We haven’t written out an official criteria list to follow while evaluating candidates, as we thought it wouldn’t come to this.

We’ll listen to the supplied material (video on youtube, myspace, or whatever) and either feel it fits our project or not. That simple! We’ll mostly be paying attention to intonation, performance, ability to deliver lyrics in English convincinly, tone, the usual (including our personal preferences). :)

We’ll check our list of available next few songs and suggest one or two we feel might fit nicely for the specific voice, and then talk it out from there.

I’d like to concentrate contact through email if at all possible. It makes keeping track of everyone much easier. If you prefer, contact through PM is fine also.

SplitScreenCovers@gmail.com

For anyone interested, please send us an email with your info. Tell us a bit about yourself. A good starting point would be your name, city/country, bands/projects, forum alias, youtube channel, myspace, recording setup. Please also include a list of your favourite DT albums and songs you’d wish to cover and any other info you feel we should know.

We won’t be accepting guests with no recorded audio for us to listen to. This is the least we could ask. So don’t send us emails with “DT rulz, i sing nicely, I swear!!!!1″ (we do get this)… I’m sure you do, but please show us. :)

╟►Video responses:

I’ll gladly accept video replies as long as it relates to this one in one of two ways:

1) [Format] Your vid is a Split-Screen, full band type cover of any DT/LTE song.

2) [Song] It is related to “Metropolis Part 1″ in any type format (split-screen, single person, or whatever).

I won’t accept any other videos unless I’m convinced it’s an exceptional case, which I reserve the right to be the judge of. Thanks.

How do I clean a movie theater popcorn popper?

Posted on April 23rd, 2010 by admin

I work at an AMC theater and one of my duties sometimes is cleaning the popcorn popper. Unfortunately I’m a little unsure about how to do it and if I ask for help again my coworkers probably won’t be too happy. Can someone give me step-by-step instructions? I know there’s know way to know if the popper you use and the one I use are the same, but I doubt the differences will be too major, so if I encounter them, I can work around them.

How do you watch movies in theater with your 1 year young baby?

Posted on April 21st, 2010 by admin

I really hope I can have a chance to go to theater with my husband since there are bunch of exciting ones to expect. However I don’t know how to let my 18-month old to stay quiet and enjoy the movie with us. I may try cartoon movies like Ratatouille. Does any one has "good" experience with that? Thanks!

Some theaters have special showings set aside for parents with babies. They know that the babies won’t be quiet, and since everybody else in the theater is also a parent, they’ll be much more understanding.

If your theater doesn’t have one, suggest it to the manager. These showings are often during the day, when stay-at-home parents are available to watch movies and singles are usually at work. Or just go to the weekday matinee; there will be other parents with babies there anyway.

But if you were hoping to see the movie with your working husband… well, some theaters (like one near where I live) have babysitting on site. That’s one nice thing about the megaplexes: they have enough patrons to justify that sort of thing.

If you really need it to be the three of you, during the evening, your fellow patrons will understand for a little while if you want to bring your baby into the screening room during prime time, but I think you’ll feel very self conscious quickly and end up in the hall.

Beyond that… movies get out on DVD pretty fast these days…

How can i fix sound lag in a home theater system?

Posted on April 17th, 2010 by admin

I hooked up a home theater system (surround sound) to my television. My problem is with the sound from the cable box. I have one HDMI cable from the cable box to the television (which has 2 speakers on it) and a Red/White Component Audio going to the home-theater base. When i turn on the television and the surround speakers at the same time im getting about a half second delay in the sound out of the surround speakers compared to the sound out of the television speakers. How should i resolve this?

This is pretty typical. The best thing to do is turn off the TV sound and just enjoy the sound from your surround system.

Dream Theater – These Walls

Posted on April 15th, 2010 by admin

Song / These Walls
Album / Octavarium
Artist / Dream Theater
Year / 2005

Lyrics :
This is so hard for me
To find the words to say
My thoughts are standing still

Captive inside of me
All emotions start to hide
And nothing’s getting through

Watch me
Fading
I’m losing
All my instincts
Falling into darkness

Tear down these walls for me
Stop me from going under
You are the only one who knows
I’m holding back

It’s not too late for me
To keep from sinking further
I’m trying to find my way out
Tear down these walls for me now

So much uncertainty
I don’t like this feeling
I’m sinking like a stone

Each time I try to speak
There’s a voice I’m hearing
And it changes everything

Watch me
Crawl from
The wreckage
Of my silence
Conversation
Failing

Tear down these walls for me
Stop me from going under
You are the only one who knows
I’m holding back

It’s not too late for me
To keep from sinking further
I’m trying to find my way out
Tear down these walls

Every time you choose to turn away
Is it worth the price you pay
Is there someone who will wait for you
One more time
One more time

Watch me
Fading
I’m losing
All my instincts
Falling into darkness

Tear down these walls for me
Stop me from going under
You are the only one who knows
I’m holding back

It’s not too late for me
To keep from sinking further
I’m trying to find my way out
Tear down these walls for me now

Tear down these walls for me
It’s not too late for me
Tear down these walls for me
