I looked on a site that lists all the theaters in PA but that wasn’t all that helpful. Anyone know first hand which theater is closest?

Movies Under The Starz, llc–S Broad Street (215)-710-0035
**Evergreen Drive-In Theater–1905 Walnut Street (215)-568-7899

**The second one might be closed now but I included a number to call and check.

Did any male out there ever play a female role in a community theater?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

What was the role. How munch work gone in after rehearsals to practice? What advice to give?

My guess is that you are participating in an old English pantomime or possibly a melodrama. I used to do these every Christmas, they’re great.

Now, obviously I’ve never been a man playing a woman, but I have been a woman playing a man (I played Aladdin). It helped to pick a physical characteristic and stick with it (ie: I used to put my fists on my hips and stand with my feet shoulder width apart a la Peter Pan, helped me feel a bit more "boyish").

Its a huge amount of fun. In fact, the more you look like a man playing a woman, the funnier it tends to be. In these types of roles you are not out to convince the audience you are actually a woman; otherwise you would be playing a drag queen.

There isn’t too much work outside of rehearsal, apart from memorzing your lines and it depends on how much work you feel like doing to get into the groove. I’m assuming this is community theatre, so I have no doubts that you will have plenty of rehearsal time.

A good idea: get your costume (or something similar to it) as soon as you can. You will be surprised how much donning a dress and a bra with fake boobs will change the way you walk, talk and move. I doubt they will put you in heels (which is a bad idea anyway as men are not physically capable of walking in them!). Also, pick an effeminate hand prop (say a hanky or a pair of gloves or jewellery, possibly a wig). This will all help you build the phsyical characterization, the lines will follow.

I may go to Istanbul for 3 days…i wants to watch dark knight…does someone knwz a theater that plays DK?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

I would appreciate if someone can give me the website of a theater or website of a publication that lists the movies played in istanbul

Sorry but "The Dark Knight"s screening in Istanbul has ended. (It’s a great movie btw. Very amazing cast and wonderful acting! If Gotham in the movie were like the Gotham in Tim Burton’s "Batman" with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson, then it would be extraordinary!)

If you still want a website that lists the movies played in Istanbul, try these:

http://sinema.milliyet.com.tr/

On the upper right, first choose a movie from the drop-down menu (Film Seçiniz) and then choose the city (Sehir Seçiniz).

http://beyazperde.mynet.com/

You may select a movie from the drop-down menu "Vizyondaki Filmler" and then select the city from the next window from the menu "Seanslar – Bu Filmi Izlemek Istediginiz Yeri Seçin".

You may also select the city from the menu "Sinema Salonlari" on the first page. That will give you a list of the theaters and by clicking any of them, you’ll see the movies on your selected theater.

Regards.

Volkan (Turkey)

PS: Be careful, for Istanbul there are 2 choices. "Istanbul Avrupa" lists the theaters on the European side of Istanbul and "Istanbul Anadolu" lists the theaters on the Asian side.

I am photographing a theatre production and was intending on using my E3 with Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 am I right?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

I am in the middle of my photography HND and a friend of mine has asked me to shoot her childrens theatre school productions. Will the Sigma be fast enough for the low light? I would love the new zuiko 12-60mm but it’s so pricey.

The issue here is the iso rating, which will need to be very high (ISO 800 plus) to shoot handheld at around f2.8. Correct any colour casts later in Photoshop if you want to. Focus on the issue, not expensive equipment. Keeping shutter speeds at 1/60 sec or better for handheld stuff will require this high iso rating, and it will lead to increased grain. Nothing you can do about it, just go for it. Don’t shoot at low iso or all your shots will be low shutter speed and blurred.

When does that movie called Management starring Jennifer Aniston come into theaters or has it already?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

Is it already in theaters or when does it go into theaters?
If u have seen it, is it good?

It had a limited release in theatres on May 15, but it was met with a lukewarm reception at the box office and from critics, so it was pulled from theatres. It will be released on DVD on September 29.

I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ll probably rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Why are movie theater employees allowed to see a free movie?

Posted on February 27th, 2010 by admin

Everytime I see a movie, employees just stand there and do nothing! They arnt sweeping or cleaning up or anything and they stand for the entire movie and see a free movie at a theater and not have to pay! Why is that? It drives me crazy. I wish I had a job like them where I can watch new movies everyday and not pay!

I worked for a theatre owner and one of the benefits was getting into movies free. However, I was not allowed to do this while "on the clock".

My guess would be that these employees are either "staging" for when the movie ends, so they can turn a theatre around in short time, or they’re slacking. Either way, it’s not a concern of yours unless they obviously disrupt your moviegoing experience.

If they’re slacking on the job, it’s a problem for their manager- not you.
