do movie theaters allow people to play xbox 360 on them in private paries?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin

do the movie theaters let people rent the theater room for a private party to play xbox 360 on? i want to do a soul calibur tournament on a 50′ screen that the movie theaters have. i would pay however much for a two hour session of it.

most theaters still run film so you won’t be able to use the main projectors. you might be able to use the digital advertising projectors, the problem is theses are located in a soundproof booth, so for you to see the screen you will have to look through a small porthole in the projection room.

i think the chance of them letting you use one is very minimal. you would be better to hire a projector and use it at your house.

What could I get for a 17 year old girl who likes journalism and drama/theater/plays?

for Secret Santa. :)

Hi

A ticket to a new play showing at a local theatre would be nice!
You can find them in the yellow pages.

A nice journal and calligraphy pen set would also be nice to write about the veiws on the play.

How would you prepare for your first audition?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin

I want to audition for Beauty and the Beast at my city’s childrens theater… but I’ve never had a ton of acting experience. I’m a musician, strictly up until this point, and I’ve only PLAYED instruments… not sang. What are some good ways to practice for a cold reading and 16 bars of singing!?

Try your best to get your hands on the script or sheet music for the show. Familiarize yourself with the main scenes and songs of the character you want to audition for. The more familiar you are with the material, the better your chances will be. It is hard to act with a script in your hand – so if you know the scenes well, you will have the freedom to make physical choices and make eye contact with the audition panel. You will also be more confident if you are comfortable with the material.
Make sure to select 16 bars of music that are suited to your voice. Don’t try to stretch too far. Better to sing what you can with confidence and accuracy, rather than push to high and crack a note during the audition. Remember to smile! Be positive, cheerful, and polite. Speak loud and clear when they talk to you or ask you questions.
Break a Leg!

What are those sealed posters that you see on the walls of theaters called?

You know when you go into theaters, and you see these posters in a frame, showing movies playing or coming to theaters? What are they called?

They’re called posters.

How can 1080p look good in a movie theater?

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by admin

Until recently, I assumed resolution scaled up with screen size. However, now that I know 1080p means there will only be 1,080 lines of resolution, regardless of screen size, it makes me wonder how 1080p could possibly look good in a movie theater.

I mean, on a 50 foot screen, the height’s about 25 feet, and each line of resolution would be about a quarter inch. Could that be right?

I agree with both you and TV Guy. If you want to read a four page article about the evolution of analog movies to digital movies, I have included the URL in the source. If you want just the answer to your question, it is cut and pasted below.
—————–
The 2 million–mirror, 2048-line theater system is the pixel equivalent of what the eye can see in 35-mm celluloid film projected from a pristine print by a well-maintained film projector, as verified by ordinary viewers as well as Hollywood’s “golden eyes.” A small number of theaters across the globe have successfully used DLP Cinema for five years without significant problems, proving the reliability of the technology.

Now developing even higher-resolution, 4096-line (4K) projectors, JVC, NTT, and Sony are using liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) technology, which is also in sets sold for home use. LCOS devices use digital memory cells in a densely packed array. The memory cells cause the liquid crystals to twist and, like a window blind, change the amount of light reflected, from pure white to black. LCOS devices are undeniably promising but still untested in the commercial cinema market.

England: Movie theaters and listings.?

Posted on January 25th, 2010 by admin

I was wondering if there was a website that showed play times for movies/films in England, preferrably London and Oxford.
I will be in those two cities for 1 month and wish to see the Simpsons Movie and Bourne Ultimatum when they come out.
When will they be released in London/Oxford and where can I find show times?
Thanks.

I’m not sure about the new Bourne film, but the Simpsons is being released all over the UK next week.

The best source for London cinema listings is Time Out magazine, which is published every Thursday. It has a very comprehensive list of whats on at all cinemas both in central London and the suburbs, with show times. There is also a website here: http://www.timeout.com/london/ but in my opinion the magazine is easier to use, as the site is mainly review based, rather than a whats-on where guide.

Its worth remembering that almost all cinemas in London change their entire programme weekly, so only check times once you are here…there’s no point planning a month in advance because it will have all changed by the time you arrive.

As for Oxford…the best thing is to buy a local newspaper when you are there..its not a big town and the cinema choice is much smaller than London.

What style of dance is best for theater?

Posted on January 25th, 2010 by admin

I am really passionate about theater and I am thinking about pursuing it later in life. I know that theater requires knowing how to dance professionally. Generally, what style of dance is required to have a better chance in theater?

You should start with ballet for a strong foundation then take theater dance as you gain in strength. Different shows use different types of dance from ballet to tap. Because ballet is the basis of almost all dance it is good to have a strong foundation in it.

Movie showings for parents and babies? (Chicago area)?

Posted on January 25th, 2010 by admin

I am looking for movie theaters in the Chicagoland area that offer daytime movie showings where parents are encouraged to bring their babies/young children. AMC/Loews used to have this program, but discontinued it. Does anyone know of another movie chain that offers these showings?

The Crown Theaters in Glenview or Skokie have that program.
